Stuff & Things: The Week In-Review

We’ve had a pretty big week for nerdy stuff and geeky things, and since we’re on “Re-Formatting” hiatus - - IT’S #OutSpokenJays TIME!!

A lot of our favorite returning nerdy TV shows have now been given official premiere dates. Monday nights will be getting their gloomy fix of Gotham once again, as the Batman origin-crime-show gets a season 2 return on FOX, September 21 at 8pm. Considering how season 1 ended… things are sure to start ramping up in DC’s favorite dark city. Also on Monday nights (beginning October 26 at 8:30) we will see the already-leaked premiere of Supergirl on CBS. Check out the new trailer...

Along with a cryptic teaser poster of Skye that read “Can you keep a secret?” Season 3 of Agents of SHIELD was announced to return on September 29. The new season of The Flash will premiere with Episode 1 (titled “The Man Who Saved Central City”) on Tuesday, October 6 at 8pm. Similarly, iZombie will be returning for season 2 on the same night - following The Flash at 9pm. The Arrow will be knocking arrows again for its 4th season on Wednesday, October 7 at 8pm.

To round out our weeks of nerdiness, a return is on the horizon. Coming to NBC’s Thursday night line up in the fall, Heroes: Reborn will hit the airways for a 13-episode mini-event – along with Heroes creator Tim Kring, and everyone’s favorite Hero; Hiro.

Though there is no official premiere date, as of yet, AMC’s The Walking Dead companion series Fear The Walking Dead’s 6-part season 1 will air on AMC in August… and while you wait for that –

I would like to call this section: “Marvel’s big names set the record straight” with Kevin Fiege and Stan Lee…

With the announcement of Tom Holland (a young, white, British actor) being cast as the new MCU Spider-Man, Stan Lee gave his views on all the hype of character casting, either in the movies or in comics themselves…

‘I wouldn’t mind, if Peter Parker had originally been black, a Latino, an Indian or anything else, that he stay that way …. Latino characters should stay Latino. The Black Panther should certainly not be Swiss.’

Kevin Feige has also been vocal in the last week, answering to questions revolving around Marvel

Cinematic not giving directors and writers their freedom, as well as Marvel skipping SDCC this year…

On the first topic, Feige gives those questions a big F.U., and basically says they are unfounded claims by pointing out that each movie in the MCU totally reflects the director at the helm; using Avengers as a glaring example of “completely a Joss Whedon film” – Feige points out that they provided key points and let Joss run with it.

There were many speculations (even by us) that Marvel had opted out of SDCC in favor of Disney’s D23 Expo, but Feige squashed all of those with one response…

“Everyone knows what we're doing over the next few years. I really have a belief: If you can't go to Comic-Con and overdeliver, then don't go.” Read more here

With their enormous showing last year and the MCU movies announcement back in October, Feige just feels they don’t have enough to offer… they’re busy!

In side-bar movie news… Jared Leto decided it’s best to stay in character at all times as Joker – so he did what any psychopath would: he’s been mailing live rats, bullets and a dead hog along with letters and videos to his Siucide Squad co-stars. Go ahead on, with your crazy ass self! Just don’t cause yourself any lasting effects – like sleeping pill induced overdose death. Too soon?

A very talented, and very excited fan of Doctor Strange (Alex Silver) has created an opening sequence for the upcoming MCU Film starring Benedict Cumberbatch. You have to watch it…I have no words… They need to hire Alex immediately… see the video at Nerdist here

Hot Toys has released a new Ant-Man Artist Mix series of figures. The 13cm figures’ first run will feature Ant-Man, Yellow Jacket and an exclusive Blackout Ant-Man figure. All of which are bobble-heads!

JK Rowling, though she has completed the Harry Potter saga in book form, is still plugging along with Potter-esque tales via Pottermore. That includes one story this week released regarding the back story of the Dursley’s (Harry’s much-hated, Muggle extended family). Furthermore, news came out today (on the 18th Anniversary of the release of Harry’s first adventure novel, The Sorcerer’s Stone) that Harry’s world will continue on in a very different format: Theater.

That’s right, JK is working with stage writers and directors on creating a new Harry story-stage play entitled “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”, which will reportedly focus on what Harry did following the demise of Voldemort. Producer Mo is positively squealing with joy.

If I missed anything, or you wish to add something… just comment on our post with #OutSpokenJays

As always - - Thanks for joining us in our little universe!

Love- Jay
